WOW, THOSE ARE SOME BIG HEADS

6/11: Day three landed us at Mt. Rushmore. Besides just taking photos in front of the big heads, we also learned a few fascinating facts. First of all this sucker took fourteen years to carve to completion (Gutzon Borglum finished the spectacle in 1941). Named after Charles E. Rushmore, a lawyer living in the Black Hills in the late 1800s researching mining claims of local mining companies. Other tidbits include the fact that each head stands six stories tall and Abe Lincoln’s mole measures sixteen inches. You can just call me the Cliff Claven of granite monuments.
