THIS IS NO JELLYSTONE
(Northern Yellowstone - Grand Canyon of Yellowstone)

6/13 – 6/15: Our stay in Jellystone Park ranked in the top five Slome adventures before Yellowstone. The impressiveness of Yellowstone may have bumped Yogi and Boo Boo down a notch – we’ll see where the rest of our adventures rank? I’ve heard dozens of people rave about their family trips to Yellowstone but never fully appreciated the scale, diversity and magnificence of the park. Robin and her family took a trip over twenty five years ago and she’s been telling me about it for ages. Describing the size and variation of the park is tough to achieve in words without actually seeing the park with your own eyes. We saw a ton just on our jaunt to reach our campground (~50 miles) and barely scratched the surface of the park. Moreover, it’s amazing how many things you can learn when you’re just an ignorant finance guy (Robin, former teacher, is a bit better in the ‘fact’ department – she kicks my butt in Jeopardy). Among the many facts gathered, I never knew that Yellowstone was the America’s first national park - established more than 135 years ago and is home to the largest supervolcano on the continent. Half the WORLD’s geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Going through the park, you also are constantly reminded of Nature’s power and the damage fire can cause. The 1988 Yellowstone Fire ravaged more than 150,000 acres of land.
